Transition House no longer accepting donations of household goods or clothing.
Starting January 1, 2026, the Transition House will no longer be accepting donations of household goods or clothing.
At this time, monetary or gift card donations are the most helpful, as they allow us to provide items that are safe, appropriate, and tailored to each client’s needs.
We’re truly grateful for the generosity and thoughtfulness of our community. However, this change is being made for several important reasons:
Limited space: We don’t have enough room to store donations in a way that keeps them organized and accessible.
Staff capacity: Sorting, assessing, and cleaning donated items takes more time and resources than our team can manage within daily operations.
Quality issues: Unfortunately, only a small portion of donated items are usable compared to the large volume that cannot be used.
Health and safety: Some donations can carry bed bugs or other pests, creating serious risks for our residents and facility.
Client-centered approach: When someone staying with us needs clothing or household items, an Outreach Worker supports them in purchasing exactly what they need. We’re fortunate to receive gift cards throughout the year, which help make this personalized approach possible.
Haaw’aa – Thank you for your continued support in promoting the well-being and dignity of the people we serve.
Overdose Awareness Day
International Overdose Awareness Day, observed on August 31st, is a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating impact of overdose. This day seeks to reduce the stigma associated with drug-related deaths and honors the memories of those who have lost their lives to overdose. It’s a time to recognize the pain and grief felt by families and communities while also emphasizing that overdose is preventable. On this day, we advocate for increased access to harm reduction services, life-saving treatment options, and compassionate support for those affected by substance use. Together, we can work towards a future where no more lives are lost to overdose.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
In November, we come together to shed light on a dark reality that affects countless lives. Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time to acknowledge, reflect upon, and take action against a pressing issue that affects our communities. At Haida Gwaii Society for Community Peace, we stand in unwavering support of survivors and work tirelessly to provide a safe haven for women fleeing violence.
Every story is unique, but the pain and fear that victims of domestic violence endure are universal. It is a violation of human rights that knows no boundaries of age, race, or socio-economic status. This November, we invite you to join us in our mission to raise awareness about domestic violence and empower those affected to find hope, healing, and a path towards a brighter future.
At Haida Gwaii Society for Community Peace, we offer more than just temporary shelter; we provide a lifeline to those in need. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers offers support, resources, and a compassionate ear to listen. Together, we create a community of strength and resilience that proves that no one has to face this battle alone.
This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, help us amplify our message. Share our mission, support our cause, and let the world know that we are united in our commitment to end domestic violence. Together, we can create a safer, more compassionate world for all.
Join us this November to raise awareness, provide hope, and stand up against domestic violence. Together, we can make a difference.
